Tips To Where Should You Place Your Mobile Phone Signal Booster?

This post provides a quick overview of some expert tips and tricks that relate to the installation of the components of your booster system - the outdoor antenna, the indoor antenna and the booster.

Tip # 1 Put your phone in the field test mode

You need your phone in field test mode so you can see the actual power of the signal your phone receives. This is a much more accurate signal strength reading than viewing the bars on your home screen.

If you do not know how to put your phone in test mode, watch the video above.

Once your phone is in test mode, you'll see the absolute measurement of the power of a cell signal that your phone receives in dBm or milliwatts or decibels.

dBm is a standard measurement unit, usually displayed as a negative number, for example -88. The closer the reading is to zero, the stronger the mobile phone signal. For example, -79 dBm is a signal stronger than -88 dBm.

A reading of -50 dBm refers to the strongest signal you see. When a signal is lower than -110 dBm, it is a fairly weak signal. If the signal is much lower than this, you probably do not have a service.

Tip #2 Make an indoor signal map

The next step to install your cellular signal amplifier is to create a signaling card with your phone in test mode so you know where the strongest signal is outside your home and where the weakest signal arrives. All you need is your phone in test mode, pen and paper.

Now go into each room of your house and note the dBm reading on your phone. For large rooms, you can take alloys signalized in two places.

Each time you move in the room or in another room to check the signal, it may take up to one minute to update dBm playback for the new location. You may need to force a faster signal update by placing your phone in airplane mode for a few seconds after moving the new location. Next, turn off the airplane mode and display the updated dBm reading.

Once you have completed the indoor signaling map, you know where to place your indoor antenna for the best signal coverage.

Tip #3 Make an outdoor signal map

With your phone still in test mode, walk a walk outside your home. Stop on either side of your home and watch the dBm reading. You want to find the way with the strongest signal.

This is the side of your house where you will place an outdoor antenna. You want to place the outdoor antenna here because the more the signal from your antenna can pull, the greater your coverage area will be.

Almost finished!

Now that you know where to install the indoor and outdoor antenna, you're almost done. You can place the memory unit everywhere:

1. with sufficient ventilation
2. to the range of the coaxial cables of the antenna
3. close to a wall outlet

That's all! You have found out where to install the booster system components.
