Top Poetry Contests to Enter in 2017

Calling all poets! If you are looking for a chance to get your work published, entering these contests should be on your to-do list. Contests are fun and innovative ways for you to get your creativity flowing, and of course to win some really great prizes. Here is a list of top poetry contests that are worth applying to! 1. NY Literary Magazine
NY Literary Magazine has three free to enter poetry competitions. The prizes include publication and award seals. Winners will be published in both the print and digital magazines. The first contest is BLAZE—Best Love Poetry Contest, the second is Best Inspirational Poetry Contest, and the final one is Best Deep Poems about Life Competition. 2. Rattle
Rattle Poetry Prize is offering a $10,000 prize for a single poem to be featured in their next publication. Along with the winner, ten finalists will receive $200 along with publication. Entry fee is a one-year subscription to Rattle, which is $20. The contest is open to all writers, domestic and international, but all works must be English. The deadline is July 15th.

3. The Vancouver Writers Fest
The Vancouver Writers Fest's 19th Annual Short Story and Poetry Contest is open to all writers. The rules ask for any original poetry in any style, with a 500-word limit. There is a $15 entry fee, and first prize is $500, publication, and editorial evaluations of the winner’s written works. The deadline for submissions is September 5th.

4. The Broadkill River Press
The 15th Annual Dogfish Head Poetry Prize is free to enter for writers living in the Mid-Atlantic region of America. The requirements for entry are that the manuscript is between 48 and 78 pages, and writers must be over 21 years of age. The winner will receive $500, ten author copies of the book, and two cases of Dogfish Head beer. They will also attend a reading and an award ceremony at the Dogfish Head Brewery. The deadline for submission is August 15th.

5. Omnidawn
Omnidawn has three poetry contests this year. Two are poetry book competitions and one is a single poetry contest. For both book contests, all styles and forms are welcome, manuscripts must be unpublished and original, and must be in English. The winners will receive a cash prize, publication of the book with a full-color cover, 100 copies of the book, and advertising and publicity. Both have a $27 reading fee. For the single poetry contest, any genre is welcome as long as it is between eight to 24 lines. The entry fee is $10 and the winner receives $1,000, a letterpress publication of the broadside, 50 copies of the broadside, and publication in the Omniverse online journal.

6. Winning Writers
The Wergle Flomp Humor Poetry Contest is a free international poetry competition. The requirement is that the humorous poem is no more than 250 lines. The winner will receive $1,000, second place will get $250. In addition, there will be ten honorable mentions who receive $100 each, and these top 12 poems will be published online.
